Test piece between 5 & 12 Gms can be used The apparatus consists of a rigid aluminum plate standing vertically on a heavy cast base . The S.G scale is printed on the vertical plate and a pointer is pivoted on fine bearing to register the specific gravity on the scale.
The test piece is suspended on needle from an arm at one end of the pointer which is initially set to A with test piece in air by means of two sliding balance weights.
The test piece is then Immersed in water contained in a beaker . The reading indicated on the scale by moving pointer is the specific gravity of the sample
